Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT)

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, mHBOT, is a non-invasive wellness modality that delivers increased oxygen to the body under gentle, pressurized conditions. At 1.3 ATA, oxygen dissolves more efficiently into the bloodstream and plasma, reaching areas that may not receive optimal oxygen under normal conditions and supporting the body at the cellular level. Unlike medical-grade hyperbaric therapy, mHBOT is designed for consistent, supportive use—focused on recovery, energy, and overall vitality in a safe, comfortable environment.

The mHBOT Experience

We designed our mHBOT suite to feel like a sanctuary, not a clinic. From the moment you step in, the environment is calm, clean, and welcoming. You’ll relax inside a private, vertical, pressurized chamber with an ergonomically designed recliner, while breathing normally as oxygen levels gradually increase through a nasal cannula. As the chamber gently pressurizes, you may feel a light fullness in your ears, similar to flying. This is normal and easily relieved by swallowing or yawning. Most guests use the 60-minute session to rest, read, work, meditate, or simply disconnect. The experience is calm and effortless, with many describing a subtle sense of clarity and reset during and after the session.

Commonly Asked Questions

What is Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT)?
Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) is a non-invasive wellness modality that increases the amount of oxygen your body can absorb by combining gentle atmospheric pressure with oxygen-rich air. At approximately 1.3 ATA, this increased pressure allows oxygen to dissolve more efficiently into the blood plasma, beyond what red blood cells alone can carry. This enables oxygen to reach areas of the body that may have limited circulation, supporting cellular energy production, recovery, and overall function. Unlike medical-grade hyperbaric therapy used in hospitals, mHBOT operates at lower pressure levels and is designed for consistent, supportive use as part of a wellness and recovery routine.

mHBOT may be a good fit if you are looking to support recovery, energy, mental clarity, inflammation balance, or overall cellular wellness. It is commonly used by athletes, active individuals, busy professionals, and those navigating chronic stress, fatigue, brain fog, slow recovery, or long-standing health issues.

Because mHBOT works by improving oxygen availability at the cellular level, it is best approached as a consistent wellness practice rather than a one-time treatment. Many guests benefit most from a series of sessions, especially when paired with hydration, rest, and healthy lifestyle habits.

The effects are as individual as you are. Most guests notice immediate benefits after their first session, a sense of calm, mental clarity, and deeper sleep that night. With consistent sessions two to three times per week, those benefits become cumulative and longer lasting, supporting reduced inflammation, faster recovery, stronger immune function, and improved neurological wellness over time. How long the effects last for you personally will depend on your individual health, your wellness goals, and the consistency of your visits. Think of mHBOT the way you think of any meaningful wellness routine, the more you show up, the more your body responds.

As a new mHBOT client, you’ll complete a waiver/health history/medical clearance form that will be emailed to you ahead of your appointment. If you don’t have a chance to fill it out beforehand, please arrive early to fill out the form before your session. Make sure to stay well hydrated before and after your session. Once cleared for use, you’ll relax in a quiet, private, vertical chamber designed for comfort, with plenty of space to rest, read, or simply disconnect from the day.

If you are experiencing congestion, sinusitis, or ear issues, please wait until your symptoms subside before using mHBOT. If you are currently under the care of an oncologist, neurologist, cardiologist or pulmonologist, or have had a recent surgery, you will likely need to seek medical clearance from your provider before your mHBOT appointment.

Once you’re cleared for use, you’ll relax in a quiet, private, vertical chamber designed for comfort, with plenty of space to rest, read, or simply disconnect from the day. Over the first several minutes, the chamber gradually increases pressure. You may notice a light fullness in your ears, similar to the sensation of flying, which is easily relieved by swallowing or yawning. Sessions run 60 minutes, giving your body the time it needs to fully absorb and utilize the increased oxygen at a cellular level.

At the end of your session, pressure is slowly and gently released, and most guests leave feeling clear, relaxed, and re-energized. To get the most from your experience, we recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing and drinking plenty of water before and after your session. Hydration enhances the benefits and supports the cellular detoxification process your body goes through during and after mHBOT.

Results vary based on your goals, overall health, and the level of support your body needs, but mHBOT is typically most effective when done consistently over a series of sessions. For best results, we typically recommend a series of a minimum of 10 sessions to begin, followed by 20- 40 maintenance sessions for optimal results. Like exercise, mHBOT is cumulative, the more consistent you are, the more your body has the opportunity to respond. Many guests notice subtle shifts within the first few sessions, such as improved clarity, relaxation, sleep, or energy. However, deeper cellular benefits, such as recovery, inflammation support, tissue repair, and nervous system regulation usually build over time.

Absolutely, and many of our guests do. mHBOT pairs beautifully with infrared sauna, halotherapy, red light therapy and chromotherapy. The Elemental Method™, developed by our founder, offers a guided protocol membership for specific areas of improvements using mHBOT with our other modalities.

Yes, many people can safely do mHBOT daily, especially for a focused period of time when working toward specific wellness goals such as recovery, inflammation support, fatigue, brain fog, or overall cellular repair. You may do 2 sessions in one day with a minimum of 4 hours between sessions.

Because mHBOT benefits are cumulative, consistency matters more than intensity. For many guests, a series of approximately 20 sessions provides the best foundation, followed by a maintenance schedule based on goals and how the body responds. As always, stay hydrated and listen to your body.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. For safety and comfort, avoid heavy layers, jewelry, perfumes, lotions, aerosol products, or anything highly scented before your session. You’ll also need to remove shoes before entering the chamber. The goal is simple: clean, breathable, comfortable clothing that allows you to fully relax during your session.

Yes. Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at 1.3 ATA is considered a low-risk, non-invasive wellness modality. It has been used in wellness and sports recovery settings for decades. The pressure used is gentle and well-tolerated, with most guests experiencing only a brief, mild ear pressure during the initial pressurization, similar to flying, which is easily relieved.
mHBOT stands for mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, while HBOT typically refers to medicalgrade Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy used in clinical or hospital settings. The biggest difference is pressure level. mHBOT uses a gentle pressure of approximately 1.3 ATA, while medical HBOT often uses higher pressures, commonly around 2.0–3.0 ATA, depending on the condition being treated. mHBOT is designed as a wellness and recovery modality. It supports oxygen delivery, cellular function, recovery, energy, and overall vitality in a comfortable, non-invasive setting.
Our chamber is spacious, soft-sided, and well-lit, with 5 clear windows. Most guests find the space comfortable and even cozy. Instead of laying down in a tube-like environment, which can be more claustrophobic, at Salt n’ Sauna Wellness we have a vertical unit that has an ergonomically designed recliner that allows you to sit up and read or recline back and relax.

mHBOT should not be used by anyone with an untreated pneumothorax, also known as a collapsed lung. This is the primary absolute contraindication for hyperbaric therapy because pressure changes can create serious complications. Medical clearance is recommended for guests who are pregnant, have a history of lung disease, spontaneous pneumothorax, severe asthma, COPD, seizure disorders, uncontrolled cardiovascular conditions, recent ear, eye, or chest surgery, certain implanted medical devices, and severe claustrophobia.

Guests currently using certain medications, including some chemotherapy drugs such as Bleomycin, Doxorubicin, or Cisplatin, should receive physician clearance before using mHBOT. Some drugs may increase sensitivity to oxygen or pressure-based therapy. If you have an active respiratory illness, or active ear or sinus infection, wait until that has cleared for mHBOT use.

At 1.3 ATA, mHBOT is generally well tolerated, and most modern implanted devices are not
affected. However, medical clearance is recommended for the following:

• Pacemakers and defibrillators (ICDs) — most are safe at mild pressure, but should be verified
with your cardiologist or device manufacturer
• Implanted drug pumps (such as pain pumps or baclofen pumps) — pressure changes can affect
delivery rates or device function
• Neurostimulators (spinal cord stimulators, deep brain stimulators) — require confirmation for
pressure tolerance
• Cochlear implants or middle ear implants — pressure changes may impact function or comfort
• Insulin pumps or continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) — typically removed prior to sessions
unless confirmed safe
• Recent surgical implants (including mesh, hardware, or ports) — may require a healing period
before exposure to pressure
While many of these devices are compatible with mild hyperbaric environments, clearance from
your physician or the device manufacturer is recommended to ensure safe use.

I’m SO thankful to have found Salt n’ Sauna! Owner, Kim, always has a smile on her face to greet you and is genuinely interested in answering your questions and having discussions about wellness. Her own story of recovery is remarkable and it led me to quickly put a path in place for myself and the healing that my body (and mind) are needing right now. I’ve become slightly addicted to how much better my entire body feels after the sauna sessions and I’m now healing myself 4-5 times a week. As a hospice worker who wants to maintain the physical and emotional stamina to help others, I’m learning the best way I can continue to help others is to invest in self-care. The salt treatments they offer have been awesome to experience as well, and I love the overall peaceful and tranquil environment that Kim has created. I highly recommend Salt n’ Sauna!
